Over the course of over five decades, the craftsmen at Galco have created holsters and accessories to exacting standard unsurpassed in the industry. The historical Cowboy Gun Leather Collection was no exception.
The Western holster rig was considered a purely utilitarian item for a hundred years or more. However, when it was crafted in the Galco tradition, it became a true work of functional art. With hand-rubbed and buffed finishes, hand-fitting and formed molding, and hand-grooved channel stitching, these were examples of the highest form of holster-making art.
Galco Western rigs were reflective of an actual period in Old West history, or the rigs seen on the silver screen during the heyday of Hollywood Western films. They were all crafted from a collection of premium bark-tanned saddle, skirting and tool leathers. All of these leathers were (and are) exceptionally scarce and difficult to source. Every holster used independently-locked stitching and was dyed in the hand-mixed color best suited to that holster style.
All the buckles, conchos and hardware were designed by Galco and cast in our foundry using the art of lost wax casting. Materials used included solid brass, white bronze, Sterling silver and even 18 karat gold.
While gone from Galco’s production lineup, the Cowboy Gun Leather Collection’s legacy of best-quality American craftsmanship lives on in every holster Galco makes.
Dakota Western Rig The buscadero-style Dakota was reminiscent of the rigs worn on the popular TV Westerns of the 1950s and 1960s. Constructed of lined premium saddle leather, the metal-reinforced holster rode in a vertical-draw position. The cartridge belt held .45 Colt rounds and featured a solid brass buckle.
