Description

Galco's Great Alaskan™ shoulder holster system is the latest in an expanding line of chest-type hunting and outdoor holsters. Carrying a large handgun in an easily accessible crossdraw torso position, the Great Alaskan is ideal for protection when hunting, fishing, camping or hiking in bear country.

Constructed of premium steerhide, the holster component is fully lined with smooth leather. In a departure from common construction methods, the harness is also made of extremely durable premium steerhide. The harness pivots at the holster attachment points for comfort, while its 2” width at the shoulder distributes weight extremely effectively. A Fastex®-type buckle facilitates quick donning and removal of the holster system. The harness will also accept an optional carrier for spare cartridges or a magazine, sold separately.

Fits chests to 54".

Great holster for easy access when carrying your backpack
This is the 3rd Galco holster I’ve purchased for my Kimber Camp Guard 10mm pistol. I have the waistband belt and a shoulder holster’s which are very well constructed and serve their purpose well. Neither one of the two holsters served the needs I was looking for, an archery backpack hunt into elk county. The Great Alaskan Chest Holster is exactly what I was looking for while wearing the backpack, it’s very comfortable to wear and fits perfectly between the shoulder straps of my backpack and the weight of the pistol is evenly distributed within the center of my chest with easy access to my pistol and binoculars.

Great Alaskan
What a great looking and functional leather holster! I’ve used an Uncle Mikes shoulder rig for my S&W 629 3" for over 30 years and it served me well for packing meat out of some serious Idaho country and motorcycling. After wearing it out, I decided to check my options and bought the Great Alaskan. This rig puts your pistol in the right place for quick access, on your chest. The Uncle Mikes put the pistol under my arm and it was really slow to access when I had a jacket and backpack strapped on. To be honest, other than fitting the harness, I haven’t worn this rig yet but I know it’s going to offer a faster draw. Also, it is really a beautiful piece of leather and I’m looking forward to packing packs full of bloody meat out of the mountains for another 30 years! God Bless America!!
