The Alaskan 500 Magnum
I received the Alaskan 500 magnum 4" ported barrel as a birthday gift from the wife, and it is one BIG sweet hunk of stainless steel! However, I wasn't sure of the holster selections for this formidable revolver. When I went to Galco's website, the first thing to pop up was a very nice looking cross draw shoulder rig, but it was a little pricey at almost $240 bucks. I'm certain the quality is there (and worth every penny), and I'll probably get one at some point, but then I saw this SWITCHBACK hybrid cordura/leather listed at the bottom of the page, and the price was spot on right at $52 bucks. It was a no brainer to grab one at that price point! It was on backorder, but came much quicker than advertised. The moment of truth was at hand as I went to slide the 500 mag into it. It was a perfect, snug fit! It really holds it tight, but she releases' smooth and quick. The construction is of the highest quality, and easily switches from left to right and back. Also, it's a very nice feature that the thick leather top strap has a slot stitched into it to securely straddle over the top of the cross checked cocking tab, then snaps into place with authority across that hammer to keep it from moving in any way, no worries. As well, it completely covers the trigger guard housing. You don't want an accidental misfire with any firearm of the calibers that fit in here, and this holster gives me peace of mind that this is NOT going to happen! It is black in color. I like this, as my grips are also a black rubberized Pachmyr type grip. It looks great. In closing here, I'll say that it's quite a well tailored, compact package considering the large frame/X-large frame revolvers that this holster accepts. Perhaps down the road Galco will make this holster in a brown leather for those who have brown wood grips for a nice co-ordinated look, but I digress. I just love it, love it, love it...Thanks Galco!!!
